Lorain County Community College Students in Free Enterprise Team(LCCC SIFE)is a student run non-profit organization in Ohio. Our students complete community service projects to help change the world. We are a small group of motivated college students trying to make a difference. To learn more about us go to www.lcccsife.com to learn more about the Students in Free Enterprise global organization go to www.sife.org Our College has been amazingly generous in their support of our team. Our President, Dr. Church has helped us achieve our goals, so this year, we would like to pay it forward and help the young people from the Village of Igenaitambe in Kenya by supporting the development of a new Learning Center. Igenaitambe Village has a population of 29,080. More than 1/3 of the population is under 23, with over 60% of this population under 18. Igenaitambe Village has one of the highest poverty rates. Over 2/3 of the population live below the poverty line. The poverty rate is 66.74% The poverty cycle is reinforced by lack of education. Over 70% of the residents can only read and write with great difficulty. This is the result of a drop-out rate of nearly 60%. The unemployment rate is 85%. The Igenaitambe Learning Center sponsord by the Kwareslum Youth Self Help Group is going to provide a free education to youths and work experience. The Learning Center will have a student owned & operated Poultry Farm(Longstone Fowels). The students will go to school 5 hours a day and work for 3. This project was a semi finalist in the 2009 Echoing Green Fellowship award and we will be helping them re-apply in 2010. Please help us help them by donated to this wonderful cause.
